\"Traveling<\/a>The holidays are upon us, and for many of us, that means vacation time. Trips to see family and friends during this special time of year are a joyous break from the routine of daily life, but one daily routine you can\u2019t leave at home is your dental care<\/a>! Here are some teeth tips to ensure your chompers are just as prepared for traveling as you are!<\/p>\n

#1 Don\u2019t Skip that Dental Appointment<\/b><\/h2>\n

Although it can be tempting to put off your cleaning or other dental procedures until after you\u2019ve returned from vacation, you must resist! Schedule a cleaning before the hustle and bustle of the season fully kicks in – and keep it.<\/p>\n

Call your dentist immediately with any dental concerns or issues you have before leaving for vacation. This will keep you from experiencing tooth problems while you are away.<\/p>\n

#2 Pack a Dental Travel Kit<\/b><\/h2>\n

Every necessary dental care item now comes in convenient, travel sized packages, which makes it incredibly easy to create an oral health travel kit. Pack a toiletry bag or other small container with mouthwash, floss, toothbrush, and toothpaste for every member of your family, and pack it in each person\u2019s suitcase. You can also purchase disposable toothbrushes, which are a great way to keep your teeth clean in between regular brushes.<\/p>\n

#3 Keep Your Toothbrush Protected<\/b><\/h2>\n

Normally our toothbrushes stay safe and protected in our bathrooms, but during travel they are subject to extra handling, luggage, and bacteria in hotel bathrooms. Keep those germs from making their way onto your toothbrush and into your mouth by covering your brush with one of the many different covers on the market. Allow your toothbrush to dry fully before replacing the cover, as a wet toothbrush in a closed cover creates bacteria friendly warmth and dampness.<\/p>\n

#4 Eat Sensibly<\/b><\/h2>\n

Even if we eat a well-balanced, tooth friendly diet at home, the temptation to indulge in snacks, sweet drinks, and decadent desserts are many while travelling. To avoid the vacation food trap, make a conscious decision to focus your trip on fun activities rather than meals, and prepare yourself by bringing your own healthy snacks. If you do cave a bit and enjoy some foods you wouldn\u2019t normally eat, brush immediately after to avoid the negative impact on your teeth.<\/p>\n

#5 Keep Your Dental Routine<\/b><\/h2>\n

No matter where you are or what you\u2019re doing, stay committed to keeping your regular dental care routine. Even if you are exhausted from a long day of travel or holiday festivities, make time for those five minutes it takes to floss, brush, and use mouthwash before you go to bed.
